M.A.L.E.s (Men as Learners and Elders) has been providing 5-day Rites of Passage for men, in New Mexico and more recently in several regions around the U.S., Europe and Australia.  It is a very important service and ministry, but it is not our whole mission. Volunteer leaders from several regions have noticed that many men find it difficult to make the necessary connection from the wisdom learned at the Rites to finding avenues to live out that wisdom in their day to day events of daily life. So with this understanding we commit to fostering greater care of these individuals by:
·         Directing men in lifelong spiritual learning.
·         Training men to be Elders.
·         Maintaining ongoing relationships
·         Providing Men’s Rites of Passage.
·         Developing additional rites as needed.

 READING TO SHAPE SOUL WORK

Since its release, Adam's Return: The Five Promises of Male Initiation by Richard Rohr has been recommended reading (or re-reading) for men preparing for the MROP or “unpacking” it afterward.  Along with the elder’s teams in other regions, we now strongly recommend three more books for reading, reflection, discussion, and we hope, inspiring action:

Soulcraft: Crossing into the Mysteries of Nature and Psyche by Bill Plotkin

Nature and the Human Soul: Cultivating Wholeness and Community in a Fragmented World by Bill Plotkin

Merton's Palace of Nowhere by James Finley
